purgeI’ve felt a strong drive recently to get rid of stuff I don’t want. I feel as though I’m drowning in crap and it’s got to go. But that’s easier said than done.

The number one obstacle is what to do with it all– much of it is perfectly good stuff,  just unwanted by me. I can’t bring myself to throw it away. I have a dozen excuses about garage sales– wrong season, so much trouble, we don’t live in a good location, you never get rid of it all. When I start to think about what to do with it I get heavy feelings of inertia. It’s hard to get started with that burden.

I managed to get started this weekend– five garbage bags of clothes, shoes, and purses donated. 2 bags of books (that was just one room). It’s a beginning.

I realized that this is an extension of my philosophy– Have what you love. Love what you have. Get rid of/stop accumulating what you hate.

One benefit of age is increased clarity about what is important. It’s easier to say, “No, I don’t want or need that.”

Now if I could just figure out how to get rid of it.
