On the eve of Labor Day Weekend 2013 I’ve decided to share my thoughts about work. I have created a nearly perfect work life for myself and encourage others to do the same.

I’ve never been a careerist. I’ve stumbled upon my life’s work via an unusual course that seems to be a combination of “what can I do while living in this part of the country?” plus a pinch of “this is mildly interesting,” and a healthy helping of “I like these people.”  This has given me an enormous breadth of skill and experience. My current incarnation, Virtual Assistance brings together my interest in computers and technology, learning new things, customer service, coaching and project management. And it’s extremely fulfilling. I get enormous joy helping other people feel calm and peaceful.by relieving their burdens of guilt and overwhelm.

My basic philosophy has become Do What You Love. Love What You Do. Stop Doing What You Hate. It’s that third one that many people find difficult. They think they are “supposed to” be miserable.

Some of the things I’ve learned so far in this venture:

  1. You don’t have to do it all yourself.
  2. It’s amazing what some people enjoy doing.
  3. Freedom is really important to me.

I hope to pass along some insights that others may find valuable.
